NOVONIX was founded with a small team in 2013 and started to quickly grow in the subsequent years. As the team grew, we knew it was critical to bring in support to help us build and implement an HR strategy. The HR needs of a company evolve quickly as it grows, not just for its existing employees but ensuring that best practices are in place to attract talent to support its growth.

When we started working with HRO Core, our HR needs as a company weren’t clearly defined. As we started working together, it was important to know that I could bring up issues of concern, have support in understanding situations and have a thought leadership partner to help the company accomplish its HR goals. In the early engagements with HRO Core, the work they provided was clear with focused scope, but I knew I could pick up the phone and broaden our discussion and work as needed.

At NOVONIX, our people are our greatest strength. From when we were less than 10 people to now over 100 employees, ensuring we have the right HR practices and strategies in place for the team is crucial. As we have expanded our internal HR capabilities, we have continued to work with the HRO Core team to support us.

Running a small business it is clear that there are things that I know well, and things that I don't know. Could I spend the time and figure them out? Probably, but do I have that time? Could I use the time more effectively? HRO Core fills in those interstitial gaps, where I know that there is a need for properly done HR things, but I don't have the expertise nor the time. Expert advice, properly applied, is well worth it - and lets me focus on our mission.

HRO Core has met each of our needs as they arose - they set up our health plan, life insurance for me as an owner, and when we needed additional policies, also created our employee handbook . Everything has been great. I have always worked in small organizations with just a few people. Before, it was simple and easy, and now it is becoming more complicated. We have to work harder to communicate with employees, and HRO Core is able to help simplify HR for us. It is challenging to translate the traditional artisanal food industry to modern day needs, let alone people management. When it comes to good employees, we have to give them a bit more freedom, or they aren’t interested. It’s important that we provide some structure though, but not too much, or they won’t like working for you. At the same time, good employees are difficult to find. HRO Core has helped us navigate this as a small business.
